Hot Works in a UK Construction Environment
A 45-minute awareness course for operatives carrying out, supervising, or working near hot work.
• Explains what hot works are and why they are high-risk
• Shows how small sparks can ignite fires hours after work has finished
• Introduces common hot work tasks: welding, cutting, grinding, soldering, brazing and bitumen work
• Highlights why hot works remain a leading cause of fires, damage and injuries on UK construction sites
The course then moves through the legal duties and shared responsibilities under UK legislation, before focusing on practical risk assessment using the fire triangle and control hierarchy. Learners will understand how hot work permits and safe systems of work prevent incidents, including essentials like isolating combustibles, using correct PPE, and maintaining good housekeeping. Finally, the course covers emergency preparedness, fire-watch requirements, and the importance of reporting and learning from near misses.
Upon successful completion, you'll receive a recognized certification that demonstrates your competency in this critical area of construction safety.
