Working alone is a routine part of many construction and site-based roles, but it carries risks that don't exist when colleagues are nearby.
If something goes wrong — an accident, a medical emergency, or a confrontation — a lone worker may have no one on hand to help or raise the alarm. This course helps workers, supervisors and employers understand those risks and put practical safeguards in place to keep people safe when they're on their own.
Across four modules, learners explore what lone working involves, the particular hazards it presents, and the systems and procedures that reduce risk. The course sets out the relevant legal framework — including the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 — and covers risk assessment, safe systems of work, communication, monitoring, emergency arrangements and personal safety strategies.
What the course covers:
Each module ends with a short knowledge-check quiz to reinforce learning. By the end, learners will be able to recognise the hazards of working alone, understand their legal duties, follow safe working procedures, and respond effectively if an emergency arises.
Ideal for anyone who works alone or unsupervised in construction and related industries — and for the supervisors and managers responsible for their safety.
