Course Details

This course gives workers, supervisors and employers a clear, practical understanding of how risk assessment works and the part they play in it.

Delivered as a short interactive e-learning module, the course explains what a risk assessment is, how to identify and evaluate hazards, and how to apply effective control measures. It walks learners through the recognised five steps to risk assessment and the hierarchy of control, and sets the whole process within the UK legal framework, while keeping the focus on the everyday realities of construction work.

What the course covers:

  • Module 1 – Introduction to Risk Assessment: what a risk assessment is, the difference between a hazard and a risk, the importance of planning and communication, and the legal requirements in the UK.
  • Module 2 – Hazard Identification: how to identify hazards on site, including common construction risks such as working at height, moving plant and vehicles, manual handling and hazardous substances.
  • Module 3 – The Five Steps to Risk Assessment: identifying hazards, deciding who might be harmed, evaluating risks and deciding controls, recording the findings, and reviewing and updating the assessment.
  • Module 4 – Hierarchy of Control: applying controls in the correct order — elimination, substitution, engineering controls, administrative controls and personal protective equipment.
  • Module 5 – Worker Responsibilities and Safety Culture: the role of workers and supervisors, monitoring and supervision, dynamic risk assessment, and building a strong, positive safety culture.

The course takes around 12 minutes to complete and includes audio narration and interactive content. By the end, learners will understand how risk assessments protect people on site, be able to recognise common hazards, apply the five-step process and the hierarchy of control, and appreciate their own responsibilities in keeping the workplace safe.

Ideal for anyone working in construction and related industries, from new starters to supervisors responsible for managing site safety.

You will receive a digital certificate after completing this course.
