Who needs IOSH Managing Safely?

This course is designed for anyone with responsibility for other people at work — line managers, supervisors, team leaders, project managers, site foremen and department heads. No prior health and safety experience is needed, so it is also a strong choice for newly promoted managers or those moving into a safety-conscious role for the first time.

How long is the IOSH Managing Safely certificate valid?

The IOSH Managing Safely certificate does not have a formal expiry date, but IOSH recommends refresher training every three years to keep your knowledge of legislation and best practice up to date.

How long does the IOSH Managing Safely course take?

The online course takes between 20 and 25 hours to complete, with 6 months of access from the date of enrolment so you can study around work commitments. The classroom and virtual classroom versions are delivered over 3 consecutive days.

How is the IOSH Managing Safely course assessed?

Assessment is in two parts. First, a 45-minute multiple-choice test of 30 questions — you need 36 out of 60 marks to pass. Second, a practical workplace risk assessment that you complete and submit within two weeks of finishing the course materials. A template is provided and you need to score 23 out of 38 to pass.
