The CSCS card is a way to verify that people working on construction sites have the appropriate knowledge and training. This helps prevent on-the-job mishaps that endanger everyone's health and safety. You obtain a CSCS card by taking the CITB Health, Safety & Environment Test. There are 150 CITB test centres nationwide including in Isle of Barra.
What to Expect in the Test
The day of the exam is straightforward. Simply arrive with a valid ID, have your photo taken for security purposes, and take the test. You will have 45 minutes to answer 50 multiple-choice questions. Upon completion, you will get your achievement certificate that details your test results.
In the event that you fail your first try, you can enrol to retake the exam in three days. It is strongly advised that you buy revision materials to help you prepare for the next test.

What to Take With You
You need a valid ID in order to take the CITB test. If you don’t have a valid ID, you will not be allowed to take the test (no exceptions). Accepted forms of ID are as follows:
- UK driving license
- Passport
If you don’t have proper identification, you’ll need to present two other documents that prove your identity. These include but aren’t limited to:
- British Armed Forces Card
- Building Society Passbook
- Cheque Guarantee Card
- Paper Driving License
- UK Travel Document
- ID Card Citizen Card
- Trade Union Card
- Bank Statement
- Work ID Card
