What to Expect in the Test
Before you take the CITB exam, the staff will need to verify your identity and ensure that you are on the schedule to take the test. Then, for security, you need to have your picture taken.
The test consists of 50 multiple-choice questions and takes 45 minutes. Upon completion, you will receive the test result certificate.
If you fail the exam, you can register for the next exam three days after the first exam. We also recommend that you purchase materials to help you prepare for the retake. You can find revision material at this link.
It is strongly recommended that you use these materials, especially if you fail the first time. This greatly increases the probability of obtaining a passing score. If you need to register to retake the exam, follow this link and provide the appropriate information.
What to Take With You
Please bring a valid ID on the day of the exam. Otherwise, you will not be able to take the CITB test. A valid proof of identity is your UK driving license or passport.
If you don’t have one of these IDs, you may bring alternate forms of identification. These include your Trade Union card, British Armed Forces card, EU Country ID, recent bank statement, National Insurance card, or your credit or debit card.
If you would like more information on allowed IDs, please click here and explore the FAQ.

Whilst there are dozens of CSCS cards, there are only three CITB tests. You need to make sure that the CITB test that you undertake is the right one for your card.
Check below to make sure your CITB test goes with the CSCS card you are after.
If you are hoping to get a green card for a labouring position OR a provisional Red card for work on a construction site, you will need to do the Operatives test.
If you are looking to get a Red card for an apprenticeship or as a trainee or experienced worker OR a Blue card for skilled workers OR a Gold Card as an Advanced worker or a Supervisor then you will need to do a Specialist test.
If you are needing a Red Card as a technical worker, supervisor or manager OR White card for academic or professional roles OR a Black Card as a Manager, then you will need to do the Managers or Professionals test
