The CSCS card is a way to verify that people working on construction sites have the appropriate knowledge and training. This helps prevent on-the-job mishaps that endanger everyone's health and safety. You obtain a CSCS card by taking the CITB Health, Safety & Environment Test. There are 150 CITB test centres nationwide including in Brighton.
Book the CITB Test in Brighton
The CSCS Card helps prevent unqualified individuals from working on UK construction sites. Since its introduction in 1995, it has been almost universally adopted by the construction industry. To receive a card you must sit for, and pass, the CITB Test.
What to Expect in the Test
Make sure you arrive at the Brighton Test Centre on time and show a valid ID. You will then sit for a security photo and after a short wait, the test will start. It takes 45 minutes and includes 50 multiple-choice questions.
What to Take With You
You must have an acceptable form of ID with you to take the test. That means either a UK driving license or a UK passport with signature and photo.
If you do not have one of those you can still take the test, but you will need to produce 2 acceptable alternative forms of ID. These include a British Armed Forces ID and a bank statement. See a full list of acceptable alternative IDs
here.
What to do Before Going to the Test Centre

CITB in BrightonAt Construction Certification, we want to make sure you have all the information you need in order to successfully achieve your CSCS card. That’s why we have put together a brief explanation of the three types of tests available for you to take.
While this will certainly help you decide which the right test is for you, it is still important to do your own research so you fully understand which card you need for the job you are hoping to do on-site.
The Operatives Test is the most common CITB test taken at our Brighton Test Centre. This makes sense as it covers a range of on-site trades such as joinery and general labouring. If you are wanting to do this kind of work within the construction industry, then you will likely be looking for a CSCS Green Card or a provisional CSCS Red Card. The Operatives Test allows you to hold these cards, so this will be the test for you.
The Specialists Test is designed for construction workers who take on more specialised roles. As the name of the test suggests, this is the test for you if you want to move into specialised roles on-site such as gas engineer or plumber. The Specialists Test helps you to earn a CSCS Red Card, CSCS Blue Card, or CSCS Gold Card.
The Managers or Professionals Test is the highest level of test you can take at our Brighton Test Centre. It is the test you will need to take if you want to hold a CSCS Red Card, CSCS White Card, or a CSCS Black Card. The Managers or Professionals Test is a challenging test that has been designed for those people who will be working in senior positions on-site.
Prepare For Your CITB Test
All levels of the CITB Test are challenging and will require prior preparation from you. The biggest mistake we see people make is going into their test without doing any kind of revision. No matter how much existing knowledge you have of the construction industry, without appropriate preparation, you might find your chosen test even more challenging.
