The CSCS card is a way to verify that people working on construction sites have the appropriate knowledge and training. This helps prevent on-the-job mishaps that endanger everyone's health and safety. You obtain a CSCS card by taking the CITB Health, Safety & Environment Test. There are 150 CITB test centres nationwide including in Croydon.
aWhat to Expect in the Test
Upon arriving to take your CITB test, the staff will first need to check your ID and verify that you are scheduled for testing. For security purposes, a photo of you will be taken. Once testing begins, you can expect it to take 45 minutes. When you have completed the 50 multiple-choice questions, you will receive your results certificate.
What to do Before Going to the Test Centre
Most people who fail their CITB test do so as a result of not studying. Please take the time to revise your test before coming in. To help you with this, you can find revision material by clicking
here.
What to Take With You
You must have a valid ID to test. No ID, no test. Acceptable forms of ID are your UK driving license or passport. If you don’t have either form of identification, you will need to bring with you two alternate forms of ID.
These include a British Armed Forces card, an EU Country ID card, a Trade Union card, a recent bank statement, a credit or debit card, or a National Insurance card. If you’d like to see a complete list of alternate forms of identification, please click

Types of CITB
TestNo matter what type of CSCS Card you want to hold, you will always have to sit and successfully pass the CITB Health, Safety, and Environment Test.
This is a prerequisite for all CSCS Cards.
At our Croydon Test Centre, you are able to take all 3 types of the CITB Test which are:
The Operatives Test
The Specialist Test
The Managers or Professionals Test
If you are unsure which one of these tests you should be taking, the following information will help you.
The Operatives Test
This is often described as the most basic or easiest of the CITB Tests.
Describing this test as easy is not accurate as, while it may be the first level of CITB Test, it is still challenging without proper revision and preparation.
If you want to hold a CSCS Red Card (Provisional) or a CSCS Green Card (Labourer), this is the test you need to take.
The Specialist Test
If you are a skilled worker looking to hold a CSCS Blue Card or a CSCS Red Card, then you will need to take the Specialist Test.
The content of this test goes deeper than the Operatives Test and you will need to have specific knowledge of the area of work you are skilled in such as plumbing, electrical, and alike.
If you are a skilled worker who will hold a supervisory role on-site, you can obtain a CSCS Gold Card by passing the Specialist Test.
The Managers or Professionals Test
The Managers or Professionals Test goes into even greater detail about the topics covered in the other 2 tests.
Anyone looking to hold senior positions on site will need to pass this test to obtain a CSCS Red Card (Technical, Supervisory, or Managerial), White Card (Academic or Professional), or their Black Managerial Card.
How to Pass Your CITB Test
There is no secret to passing your CITB Test.
The best advice you can be given is to revise and prepare to the best of your ability as this will give you the best chance of being successful in whichever test you take.
