The Construction Skills Certification Scheme was introduced 25 years ago to address the problem of poorly trained and unqualified people on UK construction sites. Without a CSCS card today your chances of working construction in the UK are virtually non-existent. The card is obtained by taking the CSCS Health, Safety & Environment Test.
What to Expect in the Test
There is no secret to taking the CSCS test. Simply appear at the testing site at the appropriate time, show ID, sit for a security photo and take the test. The test itself is comprised of 50 multiple choice questions and you are given 45 minutes to complete as many as you can.
What to Take With You
Anyone who wishes to take the CSCS test must show an acceptable form of ID. A UK driving license or passport with a photo and signature are preferred. But if you have neither you can still take the test if you show 2 alternative forms of ID.
Alternative IDs include a bank statement with your name and address on it, a British Armed Forces ID, an EU Country ID, and a valid EU passport with a photo and signature. For a full list of alternative IDs click here
What to do Before Going to the Test Centre
70% of all who fail the test neglected to study beforehand. So revision is essential. You’ll find a selection of revision aids here
