The CSCS card is a way to verify that people working on construction sites have the appropriate knowledge and training. This helps prevent on-the-job mishaps that endanger everyone's health and safety. You obtain a CSCS card by taking the CITB Health, Safety & Environment Test. There are 150 CITB test centres nationwide including in London North (Southgate).
What to Expect in the Test
When you arrive, the staff on hand will check your ID, verify you are scheduled to take the test at that time, and then take a photo of you for security purposes. The test itself will take 45 minutes and will consist of 50 multiple-choice questions. When you finish you will be given your result certificate.
What to Take With You
The most important thing to take with you is an acceptable form of identification. No ID, no test. No exceptions. Valid IDs include a UK driving license or passport.
If you do not have one of those you will need to show 2 alternative forms of ID. These include an EU Country ID card, a Trade Union card, a British Armed Forces card, a credit or debit card, a National Insurance card or a recent bank statement. For a full list of alternative IDs

What to do Before Going to the Test Centre
It is strongly suggested that you spend time revising before going for your test. Of candidates who fail the test nearly 3/4 failed to revise before taking the test.

How to Pass the CITB Test
There is no guaranteed way of passing the CITB Test but there are certain things you can do that will greatly increase your chances of being successful when you take the test.
The first thing to do is to make sure you take the right test. This might sound obvious but there are actually 3 levels to the CITB Health, Safety, and Environment Test and taking the wrong one can result in a failed test or you not being able to get the CSCS Card you want.
At our Southgate Test Centre, all 3 levels are available so we are able to help you in your aim of obtaining any CSCS Card but you are responsible for booking the correct test.
The Operatives Test is the entry-level CITB Test and is the one you need to take for a Green Card (Labourer) or a Provisional Red Card.
The Specialist Test is level 2 of the CITB Test. If you are a worker with a specialist skill then this is the test to take for a CSCS Red Card, Blue Card, or Gold Card for Supervisors.
Level 3 of the CITB Test is the Managers and Professionals Test. This is for a CSCS Red Card (Technical, Supervisor), White Card, or a Manager’s Black Card.
Other things to do to increase your chances of passing are:
Revise
One of the most common reasons why people do not pass first time is because they do not revise for the test.
None of these tests are easy and you are extremely unlikely to pass unless you adequately prepare beforehand.
Don’t Skip Questions
All 3 levels are taken as a multiple-choice test. That means you have to choose the correct answer to each question from a list of 4 or 5 potential answers given to you.
If you are unsure of an answer, leave that question and answer all of the questions you know the answer to. You can then come back to the outstanding questions at the end and make an educated guess as to which of the potential answers is most likely to be correct.
