What to Expect in the Test
When you arrive, the staff on hand will check your ID, verify you are scheduled to take the test at that time, and then take a photo of you for security purposes. The test itself will take 45 minutes and will consist of 50 multiple-choice questions. When you finish you will be given your result certificate.
What to Take With You
The most important thing to take with you is an acceptable form of identification. No ID, no test. No exceptions. Valid IDs include a UK driving license or passport.
If you do not have one of those you will need to show 2 alternative forms of ID. These include an EU Country ID card, a Trade Union card, a British Armed Forces card, a credit or debit card, a National Insurance card or a recent bank statement. For a full list of alternative IDs click here.
What to do Before Going to the Test Centre
It is strongly suggested that you spend time revising before going for your test. Of candidates who fail the test nearly 3/4 failed to revise before taking the test.

Which CITB Test to Take
Regardless of whether you are trying to obtain your first CSCS Card or are trying to renew or upgrade your existing Card you will need to have taken the appropriate CITB Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) Test within the past 2 years.
For people who are new to the CSCS Card program, it can be confusing trying to figure out which of the CITB HS&E Tests they should take. In an effort to clarify things for you we've pulled together the following information about the different tests and which tests apply to which cards.
The Operatives Test
The Operatives Test is the basic CITB Test. These are administered to people hoping to obtain a CSCS Green Card to work as a labourer, or a CSCS Red Card so they can work temporarily on a construction site for particular academic or professional reasons.
The Specialist Test
The Specialist Test is given to people in Glasgow who have a special skill so that they can enter and work on UK construction sites. Plumbers, Heating Fitters, Gas Engineers, Electricians, Pipefitters, apprentices and others hoping to obtain a  Red Card, Blue Card or Gold Card (for Supervisors) take this test.
The Managers and Professionals Test
The Managers and Professionals Test is the highest level of CITB HS&E test available. While it covers much of the same general ground as both the Operatives and the Specialist Tests it does so at much greater depth. So one cannot study for the Operatives Test and realistically expect to pass the Managers and Professionals Test
Those who take this test are typically people who occupy higher-level positions in the construction industry and are hoping to obtain a CSCS Red Card for Managerial purposes, or a CSCS White Card because of their particular academic or professional qualifications, or because they are trying to obtain a CSCS Black Card, which is typically issued to construction managers.
