This course explains CDM 2015 and the Principal Contractor’s legal role, showing how planning, coordination and leadership keep construction sites safe.
This CDM 2015 Principal Contractor Awareness course provides a practical, plain-English understanding of the legal duties placed on Principal Contractors in UK construction.
Learners will explore why CDM exists, who the duty holders are, and why the Principal Contractor plays a central role in managing safety during the construction phase. The course explains how poor planning, weak coordination, and ineffective supervision lead to accidents — and how strong leadership prevents them.
Across the modules, learners will gain a clear understanding of Construction Phase Plans, welfare requirements, inductions, RAMS, site security, high-risk activities, daily monitoring, coordination between trades, and effective communication. The course also covers documentation, inspections, HSE expectations, and the importance of continuous improvement.
By the end of the course, learners will understand not just what CDM requires, but how to apply it practically on real construction sites to protect workers, the public, and themselves from legal and safety failures.
