Trainee Card Eligibility
The Trainee card is intended for individuals who are either currently enrolled on a qualification that requires a formal assessment of competence, or who have already completed a training course that does not assess on-the-job competence.
Five-Year Trainee Card (non-renewable)
This card is issued to learners who are actively studying towards a competence-based qualification, such as an NVQ or SVQ, or an approved academic programme including a HNC, HND or university degree.
Although the route may be vocational or academic, the qualification must lead to eligibility for a skilled CSCS card. Card holders are expected to finish their qualification within the five-year validity period, as extensions are not available.
Two-Year Trainee Card (renewable)
Applicants who have successfully completed a recognised, occupation-related qualification at Level 2 or higher (that does not include a competence assessment) within the past five years may qualify for an initial two-year Trainee card.
When this card expires, a further three-year Trainee card can be issued, provided the individual can show they are enrolled on an NVQ, SVQ or another approved alternative qualification.
