About The Different CITB Tests
There is some confusion about the various tests that must be passed in order to obtain the different CSCS Cards. The confusion seems to stem from the fact that a few websites talk about the CITB test in Leeds as though it were different from the CITB health, safety and environment test. It's not.
The test you take at the Leeds Test Centre will be a variation of the CITB HS&E test. That test features different levels of difficulty depending on what CSCS Card you're trying to obtain. Nonetheless, they are all some version of the CITB health, safety and environment test. Currently, there are 3 versions of the CITB test, they are:
  • Operatives Test
  • Operatives or Specialist Test
  • Specialist, Managers or Professionals Test
Let's take a closer look at the 3 types of tests now.
The Operatives Test
Of the 3 levels of CITB test, the Operatives Test is the most basic. But you would be mistaken if you believed it was easy. Unfortunately, many wind up making that mistaken assumption, fail, and have to take the test over again. Do yourself a favour and study in the days leading up to the test.
The Operatives Test is given to those who have never had a CSCS Card before and wish to obtain a CSCS Red Card (Provisional), and for those who want to work as labourers on UK construction sites but need a Green Card to do so.
The Operatives or Specialist Test
The Operatives or Specialist Test is the next level up the ladder of CITB tests and is given to those seeking a Blue Card (Skilled Worker), Red Card (Apprentice, Experienced Worker or Trainee), or a Gold Card (either Supervisory or Advanced)
Remember that in order to obtain one of those CSCS Cards you will also need to satisfy various prerequisites unrelated to the CITB test in Leeds.
The Specialist, Managers or Professionals Test
The highest level of CITB HS&E test is the Specialist, Managers or Professionals Test. This is administered to those seeking a CSCS Black Card (Manager), CSCS Red Card (Technical, Supervisory or Managers), or CSCS White Card (Academically or Professionally Qualified Person).
