What to Expect in the Test
When you arrive, the staff on hand will check your ID, verify you are scheduled to take the test at that time, and then take a photo of you for security purposes. The test itself will take 45 minutes and will consist of 50 multiple-choice questions. When you finish you will be given your result certificate.

What to Take With You
The most important thing to take with you is an acceptable form of identification. No ID, no test. No exceptions. Valid IDs include a UK driving license or passport.
If you do not have one of those you will need to show 2 alternative forms of ID. These include an EU Country ID card, a Trade Union card, a British Armed Forces card, a credit or debit card, a National Insurance card or a recent bank statement. For a full list of alternative IDs click here.

What to do Before Going to the Test Centre
It is strongly suggested that you spend time revising before going for your test. Of candidates who fail the test nearly 3/4 failed to revise before taking the test.

What Is A CITB Test?
A CITB Test is a common name for the CITB Health, Safety, and Environment Test. This is the test you need to take and successfully pass in order to obtain a CSCS Card.
Most people in the construction industry will refer to the test as the CITB test but it’s worth remembering that a CITB test and a CITB test are the same things.
The test itself is actually split into 3 separate levels - each one being appropriate for different kinds of workers within the construction industry. At our CITB test centre in Dudley, you can take any one of the 3 levels so you can obtain the right CSCS card for you.

What CITB Test Should You Take?
Speaking to your site supervisor or the construction company you wish to work for is the best way of finding out which test you should take. However, there are some basic guidelines that can help give you more of an idea.
The first level CITB test is the Operatives Test. This is the entry-level test and is suitable if you are looking to get a CSCS green card or a provisional red card.
The next level up from this is the Specialists Test. This is more advanced than the first level and is the test you need to take for a CSCS red card (Trainee, Apprentice or Experienced Worker), blue card, or gold card.
The highest level of the CITB Test is the Managers or Professionals Test. This is for senior construction roles that would benefit from holding a CSCS red card (Technical, Supervisor or Managers), white card, or a black card.
All 3 levels of CITB tests are available to take at our Dudley Test Centre.

One Final Piece of Advice
Spend time preparing for your CITB Test. Holding a CSCS card can greatly benefit your career so it is well worth putting in as much time and effort as possible to pass the test first time. None of these tests is easy but they are all passable as long as you have revised properly and take the test seriously.
