The CSCS card is a way to verify that people working on construction sites have the appropriate knowledge and training. This helps prevent on-the-job mishaps that endanger everyone's health and safety. You obtain a CSCS card by taking the CITB Health, Safety & Environment Test. There are 150 CITB test centres nationwide including in Doncaster.
What to Expect in the Test
Upon arrival, the staff will check your ID and verify that you are scheduled for testing at that time. Then, a photo of you will be taken for security purposes. The test itself is a multiple-choice test of 50 questions and takes 45 minutes. When you finish, you will receive your results certificate
What to Take With You
You must have a valid ID in order to take your CITB test. Without it, you won’t be allowed to test (no exceptions). Valid IDs are either your UK driving license or your passport.
If you don’t have either of these forms, you must bring two alternate forms of identification to your test. Acceptable secondary forms of ID include a British Armed Forced card, recent bank statement, National Insurance card, EU Country ID, or a Trade Union card.

Determining Which the Right CITB Test is for Your SituationA CSCS card is not a legal requirement to work on a worksite in the UK but without one, many workplaces won’t hire you. It makes sense to get one before you start applying for work in the UK construction industry.
There are a large number of CSCS cards for various kinds of workplaces and positions, but each one of them requires a mandatory CITB Health, Safety and Environment test. When you apply for your CSCS card, your CITB test needs to be less than two years old. And to add another layer of complexity to this, there are three levels of CITB tests.
The CSCS card you need for your type of work will determine which CITB test you need to take:
The Operatives test, the Specialist test or the Managers / Professionals test
Operative CITB test:
If you need a red card for temporary work in construction in the UK or need a CSCS Green Card to work as a construction labourer, then this is the CITB test you will need to take.
Some academics or professionals also need this test for various reasons too.
Specialist CITB test:
Skilled workers, (Blue card) Experienced workers, Apprentice or Trainees (Red Card) and Supervisors (Gold Card) all need to do the Specialist CITB test.
Managers or Professional Test:
Managerial (Black Card) Technical, Managerial or Supervisory (Red card) academic or Professional (White card) will all require the managers or professional CITB test.
