The CSCS card is a way to verify that people working on construction sites have the appropriate knowledge and training. This helps prevent on-the-job mishaps that endanger everyone's health and safety. You obtain a CSCS card by taking the CITB Health, Safety & Environment Test. There are 150 CITB test centres nationwide including in Cambridge.

The CSCS Card is intended to keep unqualified people off of UK construction sites. Without a CSCS Card, you stand little chance of having a career in construction. To obtain a CSCS Card you must pass the CITB HSE test.
What to Expect in the Test
Make sure you arrive at the Cambridge Test Centre on time. You will be asked to show ID and then sit for a security photo. Once the test starts, you will have 45 minutes to answer 50 multiple-choice questions.
What to Take With You
The one thing you need to have with you is a valid ID. For most people, this will mean a UK driving license or a UK passport with photo and signature.
In lieu of those, you will need to produce 2 alternative forms of identification. Alternatives include a bank statement, a Trade Union Card, or a British Armed Forces ID. For a complete list of acceptable alternative IDs

About The Different CITB Tests
Not all CSCS cards are the same. Likewise, applicants will need to take different CITB tests in Cambridge to obtain different cards. The CITB test you have to take will depend on which type of card you want. There are 3 kinds of tests:
- The Operatives Test
- The Operatives or Specialist Test
- The Specialist, Managers or Professionals Test
The Operatives Test The Operatives Test is the most basic of the 3 tests and is taken by anyone wishing to obtain either a CSCS Green Card, or a CSCS Red Card (Provisional). Note, however, that the Operatives Test is not the only prerequisite for obtaining one of these cards. Applicants for a
Green Card must also complete either the
online Health, Safety & Awareness course or the HSA level 1 course. At the same time, those looking to obtain a CSCS Red Card (Provisional) cannot have held any type of CSCS Card in the past.
The Operatives or Specialist Test The Operatives or Specialist Test is given to anyone hoping to obtain a Blue Card (Skilled Worker), Red Card (either Apprentice, Experienced Worker or Trainee), or a Gold Card (Supervisory or Advanced).
As is the case with all CSCS Cards, there are other prerequisites besides taking the Operatives or Specialist Test for anyone hoping to obtain one of these cards. Those prerequisites range from providing proof of NVQ level 2 certification for a Blue Card (Skilled Worker), to providing proof of having completed a qualifying apprenticeship to earn a Gold Card (Advanced).
Specialist, Managers or Professionals TestAnyone aspiring to obtain a CSCS Black Card (Manager), CSCS Red Card (either Technical, Supervisory or Managers), or CSCS White Card (either Academically Qualified Person or Professionally Qualified Person), will need to take the Specialist, Managers or Professionals Test.
There are, of course, other prerequisites for obtaining these cards. For instance, anyone seeking a Black Card (Manager) will need to have completed an NVQ level 5, 6 or 7, or their equivalent. They will also need to have held prior Level 4 qualification. And anyone aspiring to receive a White Card (Academically Qualified Person), must be able to prove they have completed a degree in a construction-related field, or have some form of equivalent qualifications.
