There are two qualifications you need to apply for a CSCS card for an Engineer. Those applying for a CSCS Blue Card will need an NVQ Level 2, and anyone applying for the CSCS Gold Advanced Craft Card will need an NVQ Level 3 (or an approved alternative for either qualification). These qualifications may be completed as college diplomas.
Additionally, you will need to pass the CITB Health, safety and environment test for Operatives. This can be completed at your local, CITB-approved test centre and the results will be valid for 2 years.
About the CITB Test for Engineer CSCS Card
The CITB Health, Safety and Environment test is a prerequisite to any CSCS card application. The CITB Operatives test is formed of 50 multiple choice questions, designed to test your knowledge on the basics of health, safety and environmental construction topics.
In order to pass, you will need a score of at least 90% or 45/50. Tests can only be taken at centres approved by CITB, and the results will be valid for 2 years after your test date. Statistics show that the majority of those who fail their CITB test are those that did not prepare with revision. Studying in advance of your test is crucial for your success.
