CSCS Blue Card – Apply for Your Skilled Worker Card

CSCS stands for “Construction Skills Certification Scheme”. This programme was initiated in 1995 as a way to prevent unqualified individuals from causing mishaps on construction sites. The programme is credited with making construction sites as a whole significantly safer.

To be eligible for the CSCS Blue Card you must

• Be at least 16 years of age.
• Have Level 2 construction related NVQ qualification or equivalent (such as a City and Guilds Craft Certificate).
• Pass the CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test.

There are more than 150 CITB Test Centres nationwide, so there is bound to be one near you. A Blue CSCS Card is not legally required, but most construction companies now insist on it as proof of skill, safety knowledge and trade competency. Holding a Blue Card greatly improves your employability and access to UK construction sites.

After your application has been successfully processed, your CSCS Blue Card normally arrives within 5–10 working days. You will receive an email confirmation once your card is dispatched.

A CSCS Blue Skilled Worker Card is valid for 5 years. To renew it, you must retake and pass the CITB Health, Safety & Environment Test and then submit a renewal application before the expiry date.
