Which CITB Test Should You Take?

To obtain your first CSCS Card or to renew your current card, you will need to have passed the relevant CITB Health, Safety, and Environment Test within the last 2 years.

Although each CSCS Card has its own list of requirements to be met to hold one, passing the CITB Test is the most common requirement that all CSCS Cards have.

It can be quite a challenge to work out which of the 3 levels of CITB Test you need to take to be able to get the CSCS Card you need in order to work in different jobs throughout the UK construction industry.

The following information about each one of the tests will help you decide which one you should take at our Coventry Test Centre to obtain the CSCS Card you need.

The Operatives Test

The Operatives test is the most basic CITB Test.

This is the test you will need to take if you are looking to get a CSCS Green Card so you can work as a Labourer or a CSCS Red Card to allow you to temporarily work on a construction site for academic or professional reasons.

Despite being the most basic CITB Test, you will still need to revise and sufficiently prepare to pass.

The Specialist Test

The Specialist Test is the test that skilled workers such as Plumbers, Electricians, and Pipe Fitters need to pass in order to obtain a CSCS Blue Card or Red Card.

For skilled workers who will be taking on a supervisory role on a construction site, the Specialist Test also allows them to obtain a CSCS Gold Card.

The Managers or Professionals Test

This is the highest level CITB Test and goes into much more detail about the topics covered in the other 2 tests.

Typically, the people taking the Managers or Professionals Test are those who will be taking more senior positions on a construction site.

By passing this test, you will be able to hold a CSCS Black Card (Managerial), Red Card (Technical, Supervisory, or Managerial), or White Card (Academic or Professional).
