NVQ Overview

The Level 4 NVQ in Controlling Lifting – Lifting Supervisor (also known as Crane Supervisor) is a competency-based qualification designed for individuals currently working in a supervisory role within lifting operations. To undertake this NVQ, you must already be supervising lifting activities, ensuring compliance with national safety regulations and maintaining the safety of everyone involved. If you are not currently in such a role or lack the necessary knowledge, you will not be eligible for this qualification.
This nationally recognised qualification is ideal for those seeking accreditation to advance their professional career. You will be assessed across various modules, including your ability to oversee lifting operations, manage workflow, monitor equipment and machinery use, ensure high-quality work, prepare sites for lifting, and evaluate workplace performance.
Upon completing the NVQ, you can apply for a blue CPCS (Construction Plant Competence Scheme) card. To be eligible, you must already hold the red CPCS card and have at least six months of experience in your supervisory role alongside completing the Crane Supervisor NVQ. This qualification showcases your supervisory experience, enhancing your employability. As this is a work-based qualification, you will need to provide a range of evidence for online assessment, including written documents, records, and interviews.
