In an effort to prevent unqualified individuals from causing construction mishaps the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) was introduced in the mid-1990s. Today, most UK construction sites require CSCS cards. You can obtain a card by taking the CITB Health, Safety & Environment Test.
What to Expect in the Test In Ayr
Upon entering the test facility you will be asked to present an ID. You will also be asked to take a photo for security purposes. The test itself is comprised of 50 multiple choice questions administered over a period of 45 minutes. When you finish you will receive a results certificate.
What to Take With You To The Ayr Test Centre
The only thing you need to take with you is a valid form of ID. Ideally, that means a valid UK driving license or UK passport. But if you have neither you will be asked to produce 2 alternative forms of ID.
No ID?
Alternative IDs may include a Work ID card, an EU Country Card, a British Armed Forces card, a credit card or a recent bank statement with your name and address on it. If you cannot satisfy the ID requirement you will not be allowed to take the test. For a full list of alternative IDs see our
FAQs page.
What to do Before Going to the Test Centre
Most people who fail the CITB do so because they neglected to revise. You can prevent this by using the revision aids you will find
here.
