Course Details

This Fire Marshals in UK Construction course prepares learners to carry out the Fire Marshal role confidently on live, changing construction sites. It explains why construction is high-risk for fire and defines the Fire Marshal as a prevention-first role focused on safe evacuation rather than firefighting.
• Explains why construction sites are uniquely high-risk: temporary structures, high fuel loads and changing layouts
• Defines the Fire Marshal’s purpose as preventing fires and supporting safe evacuation, not tackling large fires
• Covers common ignition sources and fuels, including hot works, temporary electrics, smoking and arson risks
• Uses the fire triangle to show how construction fires start and spread quickly
• Explores typical human behaviour in fire emergencies and how Marshals can encourage calm evacuation
• Builds day-to-day competence in hot-work permits, fire watches and monitoring high-risk activities
• Reinforces good housekeeping, waste management and control of combustible build-ups
• Covers correct storage and management of flammable liquids, gases and cylinders
• Includes checks on temporary electrics, site cabins and power distribution
• Clarifies rules on designated smoking areas and control of ignition sources
• Explains fire detection and alarm systems used on temporary and part-complete sites
• Introduces extinguisher types, uses and limitations, plus the PASS technique for small fires only
• Sets expectations for daily and weekly Fire Marshal inspections and checks
• Walks through emergency duties: zone sweeps, assisting vulnerable persons and directing people to assembly points
• Covers assembly-point headcounts, liaison with the Fire and Rescue Service and handover of key information
Emphasises fire logbooks, drill planning, recording findings and driving continuous improvement

Upon successful completion, you'll receive a recognized certification that demonstrates your competency in this critical area of construction safety.
