The CSCS card is a way to verify that people working on construction sites have the appropriate knowledge and training. This helps prevent on-the-job mishaps that endanger everyone's health and safety. You obtain a CSCS card by taking the CSCS Health, Safety & Environment Test. There are 150 CSCS test centres nationwide including in Chatham.

What to Expect in the Test
If you arrive late to the Chatham Test Centre you can expect to be turned away. So be prompt. Once inside your photo will be taken for security purposes. The test will include 50 multiple choice questions and you will have 45 minutes to answer them.
What to Take With You
If you do not have an acceptable form of ID you will be turned away. For most people, this will be a UK driving license or a UK passport.
If you do not have one of those, not to worry. You can still take the test if you can produce 2 alternative forms of ID. Acceptable alternatives include a Proof of Age Card, National Insurance Card and Trade Union Card. Click here

.Which Test to Take
As we said at the start, a prerequisite for obtaining any type of CSCS Card is that you take and pass the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test. But there are 3 different types of CITB tests and more than a dozen types of CSCS Cards. So in order to get the card you're after you need to make sure you take the right test. To help you determine which test you need to sit for we've created the following short guide, which begins with the 3 different types of CITB tests:
The 3 different CITB HS&E tests are:
- The Operatives Test
- The Specialist Test
- The Managers or Professionals Test
Let’s take a closer look at each of these tests.
The Operatives Test
You will need to complete the CITB Operatives Test if you are seeking either of the following CSCS Cards:
- CSCS Green Card (Labourer)
- CSCS Red Card (Provisional)
The Specialist Test
The Specialist Test is the next level of CITB Test and must be taken and passed by anyone hoping to obtain one of the following CSCS Cards:

- CSCS Blue Card (Skilled Worker)
- CSCS Gold Card (Supervisory, Advanced)
The Managers or Professionals Test

Keep in Mind…
Just as you will need to take the appropriate CITB HS&E Test to obtain the CSCS Card you’re after, each card has other prerequisites that must be satisfied. As these change from card to card there are too many to cover in the limited space we have here. You can, however, visit the official CSCS website
where you will find the information you need on each card’s prerequisites.
