The Construction Skills Certificate Scheme, or CSCS card, was introduced in 1995 as a way to prevent poorly trained and unqualified individuals from causing mishaps on construction sites. To obtain a CSCS card a candidate needs to take the CSCS Health, Safety & Environment Test.
What to Expect in the Test
When you appear at the testing site you will be asked to provide identification and will then have your photo taken for security purposes. The test itself consists of 50 multiple choice questions that you are given 45 minutes to answer.
What to Take With You
The one thing you must have with you when you arrive at the testing facility is a valid form of ID. No ID, no test. Preferred types of ID are a valid UK driving license with a photo and signature, or a UK passport with a photo and signature. However, if you have neither there are acceptable alternatives.
Acceptable alternative forms of ID include a British Armed Forces card, an EU Country ID card, a Trade Union card, a credit card, or a bank statement with your name and address on it. For a full list of alternative IDs, click here
. Keep in mind you will need to show 2 alternative IDs.
What to do Before Going to the Test Centre
In the days leading up to the test, you should spend time on revision. You can find helpful revision aids here
